I'll either find a way or make one!!!

My theme for today is..."I'll either find a way or make one!!!"- Jennie S. Bev. (I just saw this on her website this morning, loved it and wanted to use it)

Last night I was up with my daughter and went on Facebook to pass the time. I didn't stay on their long but while on there I came across some pictures of my girl Cheryl M. Brown dancing with Mya, the singer. It inspired me. Not really because Cheryl was dancing (even though she is a really good dancer), it was because I know that Cheryl is living out her dreams. She owns her own dance company in the DC area and is also a filmmaker. She's living out her life on her own terms, and I have a lot of respect for that. I've known Cheryl for almost 20 years now, and its nice to see her still moving forward.

She's probably going to be surprised that I'm talking about her on my blog...I hope she doesn't mind :)

Anyway...over the past couple of years I haven't had the opportunity to really go after what I want, the way I know I need to. But I can go on and on about that, but that's not necessary.

The point is...instead of sitting around feeling overwhelmed about not having enough money to get my cd mastered and pressed up, etc., etc. I just need to find a way to do it, or make a way. I might just have to sell bootleg versions of my own cd until I save enough money to get it professionally done :)

Its not like I haven't done it before...

I found a way to earn my Master's in Psychology back in 1999, when the chairperson of the department and one of the full professors didn't like me (to this day, I still don't know why :) ) and tried to do everything in their power to keep me from getting it. I had never experienced such hatred from people before in my life...but fortunately my other professors noticed as well, and had my back...

- I got kicked out for getting two C's (from those two professors), fought to get back into the program, re-took those classes with different professors and got A's, had to re-write my Master's thesis from scratch, and finish it in essentially one semester so that I could graduate with my class. I learned two things about myself back then...(1) My God has given me all the tools that I need to survive and live in my purpose.(2)When I feel like my back is against the wall or like people are trying to hold me down, it only fuels me to become stronger and I end up accomplishing what I need to.

With that being said, I will get on with my day....Peace and Love.

My Video

For months I have been having problems with embedding uploaded videos. I decided to try again today...

Different Places/Whatever Comes Our Way from Deri Tyton on Vimeo.

Yesterday one of my Facebook friends (Malakh-El) posted a short video of him and someone else dancing and I got re-inspired. Their dancing skills were tight, but that really wasn't the point. The point was there was a resurgence in me to resume doing video blogs and finding reasons to display my talents on video. Deri (my hubbie, a filmmaker) started taping me earlier this year, and we got so caught up in other things that we slacked off. The last time I was on tape, was in March when Deri shot my music video.

After that my pregnancy really started to "show" so I started to feel a little awkward about doing blogs. Pregnancy is beautiful of course, and I was proud of that but I really started to feel uncomfortable and I didn't want it to show up on tape.

Now, I'm planning to set up a new shooting schedule with Deri and I'm also re-considering another video idea I've had for a while. Be looking out for them...I'll keep you posted!

Right now I'm just recouperating and getting ready to get back on my music grind!! See you at the top!!

Hello everyone...today is a restless day for me. I want to be out and about yet, I'm feeling a little drained due to me being so close to my due date (7/22). Time is moving really fast! I know its just a symptom of being almost 39 weeks pregnant! Keep me in your prayers!

Just wanted to say that although, this blog was initially created to mainly discuss my musical journey, as my life "evolves", I will be discussing topics beyond music. If you don't personally know me, I have a very diverse personal, educational, and professional background...all of which contribute to my commitment to music! I spent a lot of time "skirting around" my interest in becoming a singer, and in that time, I had the privledge to move to several different cities, meet many people, and absorb so much! All of which, I will share with you from time to time to give you more insight into my thoughts and experiences.

Thanks for being apart of my journey!!

Peace and Many Blessings!

Trying to live a "Purpose Driven Life"

I'm up late, trying to utilize the time I have in between sleeping :) My due date is in 20 days!! I finally went to the store and purchased some things to take with me to the hospital for the baby. Its not that I haven't been interested in getting things earlier, its just that things have been so hectic this summer, I've just been handling one thing at a time. But as the days drawn near, I'm starting to see that its very necessary that I get prepared.

I honestly feel a little overwhelmed and also excited. I think its because I know my life is about to get a little more hectic, and it will at least temporarily take me away from my commitment to getting my music ready. I have a 17 month old son, whom I absolutely adore, and I feel myself being a little nervous because he's still so young and I don't want him to feel unloved in anyway, ever. I know most parents in my position have the same fear, so I'll just play it by ear :)

I know, I know, their are many people out there, who would trade places with me, at the drop on a dime, to be able to bring a life into the world. Believe me, I'm very thankful, just need to figure out how I'm going to balance it all.

My commitment to motherhood is very strong and my commitment to my purpose is just as strong. What I'm finding is that I'm just going to have to make a commitment to be the best I can in both areas and try to be as organized as possible. Please keep me and my family in your prayers!

Love you all and thanks so much for reading my blog!

Hello world! I seems like my posts have been averaging once a month, but I definitely plan to make them more frequent as time goes by.

Lately I have been evaluating places to get my music mixed and mastered. Of course the goal is to get the best quality for the price. I know that things are going to come together in God's perfect timing, I also know that you have to put in the work and he will meet you half way.

If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.

Relocation has been taking up a lot of time!!

Hey cyberspace!!! My family just relocated to Atlanta and we've been getting prepared for our new arrival in a couple of months.

I'm still working on music...just in the planning stages. The album will be out this fall, after I have a couple of months to bond with the newborn and get adjusted to two babies!!

I'm looking forward to it all.

Be looking out for more consistent posts in the next couple of weeks!!

Two more songs on the way!!

I've been working hard over the past couple of days to get these two songs finished while Kafele Bandele (musician/producer/fam) is in town from in NYC. So far "Society's View" is complete and tomorrow we should be finished with "A Way Out of Darkness". These songs will be included in my album and will also be featured in the short film series I co-executive produced, "Things Fall Apart"-which was written, directed, and shot by Deri Tyton (Legenderi Media Co.). I plan to post the shorts on my blog as well.

Talk to you soon!!!

Its been a long time!

Hello everyone! Its been so long since my last entry. I've been traveling, and took a small break away from music to deal with family stuff. Don't worry I haven't gotten too far off track. I'm scheduled to shoot my first video this upcoming week and am brainstorming about fundraising ideas as I am writing to get this album done.

Just wanted to check in, just in case someone stopped by and was wondering where I've been :)

Practice, practice, practice...raw talent can only get you so far.

I attended a cheerleading competition today. There were a lot of "good" teams competing but the ones that were "great" were the teams that showed dedication to practicing their craft. Of course on every team you could spot someone with raw talent but in most cases it did not improve the overall performance of the team.

I say all this because it gives me a great example to live by in my musical journey. In the past, I have benefited from lots of practice in my dance career, and even when I was a cheerleader in junior high and high school. Looking at how I am currently handling my musical career, I can honestly say that although, I do practice, I often allow my other commitments to get in the way of me practicing on a daily basis.

Although I have been blessed with great raw talent, the more I progress, I am going to have to practice, practice, practice!!!!

It seems so simple, but when you are a new wife and mother, it is not always easy. i am not making any excuses, my commitment to succeeding in music is very solid. I am determined to wade through everything and exceed my own expectations.

Have fun watching the Superbowl!!!

Progress

I had the privilege of being a part of history last week in D.C. It was an awesome experience and I returned to Chicago very focused on completing the songs that I am currently working on for my album.

We were able to make some headway this week and tomorrow I plan to record two songs. Hopefully everything will work out as planned.

I plan to post at least one of the songs on my pages by next weekend.

Stay tuned!!!
